Volkswagen Jetta check engine light and hesitation due to a failed high-pressure fuel pump. Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L turbocharged engines may develop hesitation on acceleration and/or a Check Engine Light due to a failed high-pressure fuel pump, a worn high-pressure fuel pump camshaft follower, or a worn camshaft lobe. The camshaft lobe pushes on the follower to operate the high-pressure fuel pump.

Fix requires one or more of the following: camshaft replacement, high-pressure fuel pump replacement, or high-pressure fuel pump cam follower replacement.

This problem can recur, and the high-pressure fuel pump cam follower should be inspected every 10,000 - 15,000 miles.
