Five Driving Safety Tips for Holiday Road Trips for Owners of European and German Automobiles

Stadium Auto Service wants you and yours to be safe on the road while heading back and forth on your holiday road trip. After all, the goal is to get to Grandma’s house safely, have a festive holiday with everyone, and return in one piece back home to Ann Arbor, right?

European vehicles are known to have lots of safety features. Still, is it often fatigue, distractions, speeding, and other hindrances that cause accidents. To help everyone have a safe and happy holiday road trip, we are offering the top five driving safety tips we can muster. So, here goes…

Schedule a pre-trip inspection from Stadium Auto Service. It is better to check your engine, tires, wiper blades, cooling system, fluids, and so on before you hit the road to see your family.

  • Plan your route ahead of time. Many BMWs, Mini Coopers, Mercedes, Audis, and Volkswagens have GPS systems showing routes and traffic density. However, a backup map is a smart item to have handy if technology fails you.

  • Leave during “off-hours”. If you leave before everyone else hits the road, or if you leave after traffic has died down, you’ll save yourself lots of time and agony. Besides, driving in the dark doesn’t require wearing sunglasses, and you can appreciate the beauty of the rising or setting sun.

  • Pack an emergency kit. You can never be too prepared for an emergency. Be sure to have at least some bottled water, a first-aid kit, gloves, a tire jack, battery cables, a blanket, and non-perishable foods stashed away in your emergency kit. Bonus if you can include daily comforts like chewing gum, extra power cables for your mobile devices,, a hat, and sunglasses.

  • Write down your list of emergency phone numbers. It happens to the best of us. We use speed dial so much that we don’t remember Grandma’s number, Dad’s work number, or your Boss’s cell number. Just in case your phone dies and you need an important phone number, have your written list tucked away in your glove compartment.

There are many ways to have a safe and festive holiday road trip. It’s up to you to stay cautious and make it there safely.
